    The First Annual National Black Student Union Conference was held at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, September 17-20, 1998. Subsequent conferences were held:

    A study entitled “African American Student Achievement: The Black Student Union” (1997-98) was the basis for starting the Office of the National Black Student Union. Another study, entitled “Across America”, enabled the Office of the National Black Student Union to identify Black Student Unions throughout the United States and to commit to hosting an Annual Conference. This conference addresses the role of Black Student Unions relative to academic achievement and factors such as:

    • Research for Personal, Professional and Community Development
    • Study Abroad Initiatives and International Linkages
    • Philanthropy and Endowments
    • Personal and Professional Development
    • Pre-college, College Transition and Retention Activities
