We are writing to you now on behalf of Princeton University to inform you of the undergraduate conference:

Branching Out: An Investigation of Diasporic Studies
Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey
March 19 - 21, 2004

Branching Out aims to create academic community amongst undergraduates by allowing them to present their original independent work to each other. We also hope to create a dialogue in the field of Diasporic Studies which, for our purposes, is defined as the studying of issues relating to movements of ethnic, cultural, gender, national and/or religious ideas or groups across geographic or temporal boundaries. Possible research could include but is not limited to Islam in South Africa and the United States, Christianity in Western Europe, American expatriate culture, Francophone literature and Notions of Beauty in the Old World and New World. Please note that these are simply suggestions and are barely a representation of the varied work we hope this conference will present. Since this is a conference in the humanities, we are limiting the submissions to the following departments: Women's Studies, Languages and Literatures, Cultural Studies, Religion, Politics, Philosophy,

Music, Linguistics, History and Art.

The events of Branching Out will include a keynote address from Princeton University Religion Professor Eddie Glaude Jr. and presentations from other undergraduate students from across the country. The schedule of Branching Out also allows for mingling and networking among undergraduates.

Those submitting abstracts should not submit anything longer than one and one half pages. If their abstract is accepted, the participant will be expected to give a 15 to 20 minute presentation on their work and answer questions on said work. All abstracts are due electronically on December 31, 2022 to UndergradConference2004@hotmail.com. Everyone should receive a response regarding their participation as a presenter by January 16, 2004. Everyone is welcome to attend even if they will not be a presenter.

We hope that you will join us March 19 - 21 for the Branching Out Conference. For further information please contact the coordinators at UndergradConference2004@hotmail.com.
